comment Why are dark color schemes in editors so popular?
At least with web sites that use white text on black backgrounds, I get after-images only minutes after reading. I just can't do it. (Whereas I'm fine with black text on white background).

comment Is a well written documentation a good enough reason for learning a programming language?
Since you're new to Python, I would suggest you consider stopping referring to it and thinking of it as "a scripting language". It's a language. People write web sites, desktop apps, small scripts, huge libraries, embedded controllers, etc. with it. Calling it "a scripting language" seems inappropriate to me.

comment When thinking about dates and times - is midnight today in the past or future?
There is no confusion about AM / PM for midnight. It is always defined at AM. 12pm is noon (mid-day).

comment Should I take care of race conditions which almost certainly has no chance of occuring?
It's always nice when probability provides humor ("that's probably reliable enough"), and a good answer besides.

comment PHP, Python, C# for web and desktop applications
@jasondavis To answer this question: "If a desktop application is built with Python and some GUI library for a windows app, does the user need to install Python for the app to work?", the answer is NO. You can bundle the whole Python language ("the interpreter") with your application. But note: the .exe size will be no less than 5 MB but more likely 10-20 MB. And it still won't be compiled, so it won't run as fast as a compiled (like C or C++) program. Still, I think it's perfectly fine.

Thanks--this is just the sort of stuff I wouldn't be able to as easily find without querying a human. And what about a (Javascript, I guess?) widget toolkit?

@CFL_Jeff I don't need to use Python; I'd just like to, since I already know it and like it.

@CFL_Jeff This might be part of my problem: what is the difference between a web application and SAAS?
