comment Selling software instead of on-demand work
That sounds fine. I can handle some stress and doing on-demand on a familiar environment is not a problem. It's the work where stuff has to be done quickly (like yesterday ?) and needs to be flawless that I can't handle. I guess that will come with experience :)

If it's an exact match you could simply set a field to unique. If not, you'd need to decide at what point a text can be considered a copy or a closely derived work.

comment Is defining a variable to name a method argument a good practice?
True. It seems unusual at first sight but it's similar to the inline pseudo objects that can exist in some languages.

That's the "downside" to loosely typed languages. You can't really enforce a signature without some validation. I didn't know you could add names like that in JS.

@GlenPeterson A factory is a possibility and is possible in Javascript (mentionned by OP).

@Duopixel I've added some alternatives to consider just to add a bit of "crazy" to the question :)

There are arguments against using enumerations. I'm simply bringing them up for two advantages: readability and restriction to a set of values.

If the language supports it you could use an enumeration such as doSomething( Undo.PREVENT )
