comment How should someone used to FP thinking read imperative code?
Unless the code is in that extremely small subset of code that can be attributed as "self-commenting," I would rather have at least some comments, which might at least include a number of helpful hints to guide me through otherwise indecipherable gibberish! But that's just me!

comment How do you learn Regular Expressions?
Absolutely +1 for this answer. I flailed away at regex until I finally sat down and read this essential volume line-by-line. Now Friedl gave me enough of a foundation that I can reason my way through all of the many non-standard variations that plague us today! I highly recommend this reference to the OP and everyone else. +1 to @slim for his comment, also!

comment What is the origin and meaning of the phrase “Lambda the ultimate?”
+1 for locating those classic papers. Guy L. Steele, Jr. also pretty much wrote the book on Common LISP. LISP and Scheme were not the end of the road for Guy, who went on to contribute to J, Fortress, and other languages. Guy was also involved in the Jargon File and Hacker's Dictionary.
