My point for including costs is precisely that you as a programmer don't control the money supply, so you have to adjust your money demand (in development and maintenance costs).

Thanks for the reply. I changed the acceptance, because I think Newtopian makes a compelling argument for the inclusion.

comment Should you keep a copy of all the code you write?
Playing the devils advocate: Just because the company says so, doesn't mean it has to be their code. If you compare software to other written pieces of work, e. g. an article in a journal, in Germany the author will keep the copyrigth itself, and grants a licence to the publisher. This licence might be exclusive and without limit, but it will not prohibit the author from keeping his original documents after publications. I don't see why this would be different for the intellectual property of a developer.

comment Do people in non-English-speaking countries code in English?
@ Damovisa: There is an example in R / ggplot2 uses colour= instead of color=, which is the norm.

WRT to Nike: It is arguable whether they outsourced their bread and butter business: Taking the point that their comparative advantage is not in manufacturing but in design and marketing, outsourcing is probably the right decision for them. Whether this is the case in all cases of outsourcing, is another point.

Job, I get that from running 15k - the one point where overweights helps (that is - it helps you get more points for burned calories).
