I'm not dismissing the text editor as obsolete; I agree, it's very efficient once you get used to it. My question is about the merit of the design choice that you should be able to do anything and everything without leaving Emacs. Are there specific peripheral features that are still great, or do you have insight into the history of once-great peripheral features that have now been surpassed?
