@NickC, even though it's an object, in that case I think it's indeed used as a namespace, just like Math. Since there's no build-in namespace in JS, they just use an object for that. Although I'm not sure what the alternative would be? Put all the functions and properties in the global namespace?

+1 DeadMG, exactly, compilers are much better than we are at optimizing code. In almost all cases, you end up creating slower code when using assembler.
