comment Managing re-usable code in user-centric agile stories?
Is UX people part of development team ? I thought UX people would mockup screens for stories (in balsamiq or photoshop etc.) and dev team is to implement the mockups. I mean stories should have screen mockups. Or a new story should be created that says "create a mockup for .." if it is to be done by development team.

comment Where are all the DBAs?
@JohnMcG - In a proper release management, code (including SP) will go through system testing, performance testing (if required) and pre-production deployment testing. So there is little risk and in any case if they get called and find it as a sql problem then the dev or support team should be called in turn. Moreover in many apps with dynamic inlined SQL or ORM DBAs have no scope to oversee this anyway.

comment How do you handle constantly changing database dimensions?
The whole DB doesn't need to be replicated. In Oracle every user has their own schema and we have one application schema. Create public synonyms for all objects in application schema. Then every user can change the objects (tables, SPs) in their own schema and if they connect as themselves their object names would be used. For objects that are not in there schema the synonyms woukd be used. This is how we work.

comment Visual Studio 2010 - Local File History
Yes shelves are accessible to other developers. One issue is that if you shelve code from a branch you or another developer cannot unshelve to a different branch. But this is possible if you install the TFS power tools msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/bb980963

comment Can non-technical staff gather requirements on behalf of the development team?
I agree with you but why can't there be a proxy between the developer and business. I my experience in large companies projects touches multiple systems (with possibly different development teams in different locations), data warehousing and reporting, infrastructure and even changes to business process itself. You need someone to take care of all this.

SCM actually means Software Configuration Management. If you have SVN that means you have version control, whether you have SCM or not is another question.
