comment Is it a good idea to use something like the Twitter Bootstrap in production?
at the same time this means a new developer misses out the steps of creating tabs, sliders and the other elements provided in Bootstrap themselves, negating their learning - certainly using twitter bootstrap is good, but then again creating your own UIs and doing things your own way is realistically the only way to better yourself as a developer / UX engineer

comment How do developers find the time to stay on top of latest technologies?
Totally agree. Sometimes doing a bit of the work outside to show it's potential helps. I did this with ember.js and managed to actually get the project signed off, not to mention the overtime promised and bonuses

@GavinCoates that isn't what irony defines, it is hypocrisy

comment Project Management - Asana / activeCollab / basecamp / alternative / none
Trello looks awesome. Like you say, the fact its not a specific workspace drastically increases flexibility and therefore usablity!

comment Working on someone else's code
@gnat for sure, I totally agree, however (no offence to OP) this company does not sound like the type that would have a QA team, let alone colleagues hand picking predecessors, as it has relatively inexperienced programmers working on code that an experienced programmer authored, with no guidance or info, let alone experience. (I think we can both agree this company needs to rethink its process of editing and updating code)

@gnat again that could be merely down to OPs inexperience and lack of knowledge. if I went into a colleague's function, deleted a line of essential code, put said code live and broke it, that's down to my negligence, not structurally unsound code

@gnat I don't think we know whether the existing code is structurally unsound - 1 years experience isn't a lot and an "inexperienced" coder jumping into an experienced coders work could be the problem here

comment How dependent on Rich Hickey is Clojure?
so it'll survive if Richard Alpert asks a disgruntled ex-wife of Hickey to come and work for Mittelos...
