Nescire autem quid ante quam natus sis acciderit, id est semper esse puerum. Quid enim est aetas hominis, nisi ea memoria rerum veterum cum superiorum aetate contexitur? -- Cicero, Marcus Tullius (106-43BC)

An elevator might work differently if you are ferrying war planes (aircraft carrier), hazardous materials (nuclear power plant), wounded people (hospital), or commuters (office block). Although your basics are good basics -- plus it's a simulator: a perfectly spherical homogeneous elevator moving in a vacuum. ^_~

comment QoS implementation algorithm
It maybe worth doing a tests on your data. If you are assuming a Normal distribution of traffic, you will underestimate the size of your buffers. Hurst work was on a dam over the rive Nile so just "one" source ^_~ yet the flooding data was long range dependent. Then again, you maybe right and it does not matter.

comment What is the best C++ source code to read for a beginner?
@JanHudec: What you describe is what I call toy programmes: a piece of code that solves a single problem. So, for example a Runge-Kutta algorithm would be a "toy programme" whereas a full N-body simulation would not be.
