comment What's so difficult about SVN merges?
Based solely on the question and a few comments, there's nothing difficult about merging with SVN... if you never merge.

@MasonWheeler at some point, 3.0, or whatever, needs to become the current development

so trunk is just a "starting point"? i'm all for thinking about things from a different perspective, but never merging back into the heart of your development seems inherently wrong to me

What do you mean by "if you know what you're doing, you shouldn't (and shouldn't ever have to) re-merge a branch in the first place"? Why would you not remerge a branch back into trunk?

You'll probably need a second layer of abstraction for the first layer of abstraction above the ORM just in case you want to change the first layer too.

comment Is it correct that Java Applets can do hardware acceleration while Flash can't?
If you're thinking of flash pre v11, you are correct. With FP11 you can now have real hardware accelerated 3d. There are 3 major players in the API realm for this, Alternativa (alternativaplatform.com/en/technologies/alternativa3d), Away3d, and Flare3d

comment What's the opposite of cohesive?
+1 I've never heard another word used besides cohesion. Using a word that isn't widely understood to be the opposite of cohesion (in software development terms) may only cause confusion.

@MartinBeckett So you are saying that if I release my content under a certain license, if PersonB adds new content, the new content is bound by that license and not my property, correct? Is PersonB assigning rights, as Mark says in his answer, or is their addition bound to the license that I put on the overall code?
