How to keep a big and complex software product maintainable over the years? Now, what would you do if you had to maintain and enhance a nightmarish 12 year old VB6 app with 100's of forms and classes while working on a C# re-write in the 'spare time'? |

What are some techniques to teach programmers design patterns? Mmmm... cold delivery pizza. This is a great technique when the team and management buy into it. |

Make or Buy: Web Based Accounting App Advice needed… @maple_shaft - They did say "small business" so the nightmare that is SOX compliance wouldn't apply in most cases. |

Years experience over unfinished degree? @BWoods - The problem is that the loan amount required for a good 4 year degree now is likely to result in one being broke with significant debt. Run the numbers on how long it would take a person making $65K a year to payoff a $50-75k loan. Then add things like credit card debt, auto loans, home mortgage, kids, etc. to it. It's really shocking. |

Years experience over unfinished degree? @Ramhound - Remember that's 50K or more upfront plus interest on non-dischargable loans, making the final total a lot more. This price goes up every year as does the amount of debt incurred. US student loan debt will hit $1 trillion this year. Like the mortgage crisis, it's not sustainable. |

What does a code review look like? In addition to poor quality reviews, they can also result in adversarial confrontations and/or blame games, especially in work environments that have already become toxic due to backstabbing HR policies like "rank and yank" |

Best Practices for Redesigning a Database I agree with Emmad Kareem, you're missing some key skills. It sounds like your team may be lacking someone who knows ASP.NET/C#, SQL Server/DB design and object oriented design at the level you need to pull off this rather ambitious project. |

Knowledge and skills required for Sharepoint One thing I've noticed is that a lot of places want an administrator and developer all in the same person. |
