This is yet another example of closing a question that was perfectly fine on this site when it was asked three years ago! It is really annoying to contribute to a community where the rules change and you just throw out all old stuff!

revised How can I deal with a team member who duplicates code?
Removed "better" from title, seems misplaced there and the title works just fine without.

comment How do you make a manager understand Agile?
Nothing wrong with a flowchart to illustrate how an algorithm works, can be much easier to read than pseudo code.

comment Is it plausible to use a filesystem-based configuration format rather than an INI file?
This is like how the linux kernel exposes configuration and information in the /sys pseudo-filesystem.

My first instinct is to tell you to look at BitCoin, specifically how the BitCoin block chain works. (en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Block_chain)

+1 for "working code trumps any arguments about theory or good design." Something we often forget in our quest for perfect code.

comment How should I implement a command processing application?
I really like this question. Looking forward to see what designs people suggest. Are you specifically looking for object oriented design (you mention command pattern, which is an OO pattern)?

comment Is it possible (and practical) to search a string for arbitrary-length repeating patterns?
I guess an autocorrelation + a fourier transform could tell you if there are repeating patterns of similarity, and at which frequency.
