See the update. Note I new up objects with default constructor just to illustrate my point.

Passing driver report into an inventory may not be a right way forward. It could be that the inventory module does not need to know about the driver's report. Instead, I suggest aggregating relevant data from the driver's report and then pass that data into inventory module.

comment Single instance of windows service querying multiple databases
I'm saying that he needs to write an application that hits his databases and then simply host it inside of windows service. OP doesn't seem to understand that windows service is just a host for his application and there is nothing special about it.

comment Exception messages and event logging - which tense to use?
Question is about exceptions and not log files. If it's a debug message, then you may use present tense. For example: "Retrieving orders for customer XXX". Exception on the other hand indicates that some action was invoked and it failed to work.

Exception message tells you what went wrong, therefore use past tense.

comment Use a service layer with MVC
AutoMapper comes with a built-in unit testing functionality which allows you to verify all your mapping routines with one line. Author of this post did not mention that.

comment Can manager classes be a sign of bad architecture?
Managers often have a lot of power (responsibilities) and they can be a pain to deal with - just like in any office environment ;) EventManager means nothing. EventDispatcher describes what it does.
