comment Should I expect to know a lot about every language I put on my resume as a college student?
and while I am here I advertise some nice programming languages :-) look at Haskell, MS Nemerle, Scala, MS F*, Coq, Agda. I am not sure about a OOP language, but 'Eclipse Object Teams' is quite good, and unfortunately the 'Newspeak' programming language (a smalltalk dialect) is not quite finished yet. (F* tutorial is not so simple to find, look at rise4fun.com/FStar/tutorial/guide)

the key of the strategy was to be in the top 0.1% of programmers (I'm not yet there probably but almost?). Further is it important to have that top 0.1% knowledge in object oriented and functional programming.

comment For what reasons should I choose C# over Java and C++?
The real questions is: For what reasons should I choose Nemerle, F* and F# over C#? (i.e., all three languages are from MS and all three are better)

I am just curious, and this is not a negative remark. Are there current open source projects that use Prolog+RDF? I was looking into Prolog+RDF 2-3 years ago and I could not find much.

it's a polite answer to the question ("Am I making a good choice in stating with PHP?"). Nicer then "PHP is a language created by amateurs for amatuers. It's among the worst options. (On par with using javascript to program servers.)

comment How much do they study in the best universities, relative to the other universities?
1-2 months is the time needed for a single big exam in CS at a normal university. How is your university ranked? (e.g., top 500, top 200, top 100, top 10)? I don't care what bogus ranking you use (like the times ranking, just search on google for "university ranking"). This info might help answer the question.

One of the best lessons for me was: surround yourself with the best people! ... and you will learn quickly. So if you have a chance, start off with a good language for web development. Haskell is a very good language for this. Ruby is somewhat okay. I guess everything is better than PHP. I you choose Haskell, you will read stuff written by very good programmers. Look up "Real World Haskell" and also "Learn You a Haskell for Great Good!".
