comment I'm a manager. How can I improve work relationships and communication with programmers?
As a project manager, you should track your team's habitual progress of estimate vs. actual time to completion. Using very simple math, you can make an educated guess at the actual completion time based on your team's track record when giving estimates. Keep in mind that no estimate will be 100% accurate. It's also a good idea to break down the units of work being estimated into as much fine detail as is possible. As a developer, I strongly recommend some of the Agile management practices mentioned below as a way of improving the accuracy of project estimation.

Don't use acronyms like that one to communicate with your underlings.

comment Can a function be too short?
@Thorbjorn: I could see a case for it, when you're answering a business domain question whose logic might not be obvious. I'm just pointing out that there are -some- cases where it's overkill.

comment Can a function be too short?
@Aleksi: I disagree; the details are already hidden within the showDialog() method in this example; there's no need to double-refactor it. The example is intended to show an isolated use case; if a pattern is needed with different dialog configurations in different cases, it would make sense to go back and refactor once the pattern is established.
