I am a software developer, who also happens to have a great many other interests in life. One of them is linguistics (and languages in general). My native language is Portuguese and, at the moment, I'm commited to the Portuguese Language & Usage proposal. If you love that language and admire its tradition as much as I do, please commit to it and be part of a great lusophone community!

comment Should developers do their own software releases (if there is a prod support team in place)?
The same reasons could be presented to support the opposite opinion, as well. I once worked in a company where the production support team was responsible for releases to the production environment. And they used to make some of the mistakes you point out, like editing a config file directly in production. Since they had no access to the project's version control (and didn't care, actually), the files went out of synch. But, when anything went wrong with the release, the blame fell on the development team. So, it would be much better if developers themselves took care of the release process.

comment Architecture Question
What do mean by "available to the rule" vs. "passing them to each rule"? Also, could you include in your question the interface you created?

comment Is it better to return NULL or empty values from functions/methods where the return value is not present?
@Giorgio, For Java, the Guava libraries, from Google, have a class called Optional.

Thank you. The second suggestion seems sensible to me and would not be hard to implement. But, regarding the first point, given that my options are either using that framework or no framework at all, I can't see how could I solve it.

Yes, I would like that, too. But, for political reasons which I'm not at liberty to discuss, the only DI framework allowed for this project is the one I mentioned.

That's exactly the case, @PéterTörök!
