comment How to learn ASP.NET MVC without learning ASP.NET Web forms
No need to learn SQL for ASP.NET MVC. HQL would work equally if you use NHibernate to talk to the database. Or maybe you use an exotic database that uses an entirely different language. +1 anyways as I really like this answer.

comment hosting website from home
You also need to know one or two things about security and network configuration, assuming you have some sort of router and firewall that connects your home with the internet. I'd go for a virtual private server (VPS) any time. You can still do all of the above but without the hassle and at very low cost. Getting the VPS up and running takes less than 10 minutes. All you need is a credit card.

comment How can I make sure that people changes his IP or not
I don't think you can based on the IP address. For example there is the Tor project (torproject.org). Although you can't control which IP address is used, each user can prevent you from detecting their geographical location when they go through the Tor network.

comment If competition is using 'lingua obscura' for development (why) should I be worried?
@Nupul You wrote that "If the programmers of an organization are very fluent with the development language they should be equally adept at cranking out code at a decent pace." That's an interesting statement. Do you have any data that backs this up? How do you measure productivity? Lines of code? In my experience there are many different factors other than choice of programming language that make one developer stronger than a different one.

comment Places to store basic data
It appears as if you are asking very specific details about implementing a mechanism for loading extensions. This can look very different in different languages. Some languages have libraries that support this out of the box. I'd suggest that you include more details about the technology you are using.

comment How to deal with variables when extracting methods in to smaller methods?
If the number of parameters becomes larger and you find similar combinations of parameters passed around that you might have identified a candidate for a class. Once turned into a class you can reduce the number of parameters again because you have found a higher level of abstraction. This doesn't work always but can be an indication for improving your domain model.

I'd just pass 'Varnish' as the parameter into the VarnishCost() method. However, there can be a gazillion other aspects that may play a role and influence your decision. (Hence this as a comment and not as an answer.)

comment Do We Have a Responsiblity to Improve Old Code?
could you be more specific what you mean by 'refactoring causes a regression'? Is the purpose of refactoring to improve the design of your software without changing its behavior? Can you give an example?

comment Should an application be designed without prototyping first?
Why creating a sequence or class diagram? I have never encountered a customer who is running their business off that. A spike on the other hand provides valuable insight in how to use a graphics engine. My preference therefore would clearly go away from nice pictures and towards running software. In my experience nothing beats running software. It's the only true measure of progress. I realize, though, that this heavily depends on the culture within which you work. You may have to make other choices.
