And what if your class is not supposed to be inherited? Look at many of the standard library classes, few have virtual functions because they are not designed to be inherited.

When it comes to checkins/pushes, most places have one major rule: Don't break the build! I.e. don't check in something that won't build. Other than that most places I been to want small and confined checkins, but never said anything about the amount.
