There are reasons to use ORM's but optimization is not one of them. Unless you'r moving from some sort of poorly done data layer abstraction to a well-done ORM.

@Timwi. without yield return wouldn't the consumer be forced to deal with closing the stream? Or the DAL be forced to return a giant set all at once?

@ElYusubov. Incremental processing of any nature runs into the same issue reguardless of 1 to N streams.
