Firmware engineer working on scan/copy for multi-function all-in-one printers. But I don't work for HP.

Full time nerd.

comment Why does C have no competitors in low level stuff?
@BasileStarynkevitch Engineers are risk averse, too. At least those of us who have spent 80-100 hour weeks tracking down obscure bugs two weeks before shipping. Or if you've been face to face with angry customers when your bug breaks their work. :-)

@xmojmr Yes! I remembered Pascal a short while after posting. Apple's OS (before OSX, up to OS-9?) was written in Pascal.

Can you give some examples? I'm genuinely curious. I find C quite frustrating sometimes.

VHDL is for circuit design, not firmware design. C and VHDL are two very different beasts.

comment Why do game developers prefer Windows?
"For me, as a developer, Linux is a bloody mess." Indeed! I work in an environment with Fedora and Ubuntu. We have problems even between just those two. (I must add I'm a Linux fanboy.)

comment How do you handle “support” on your products (inhouse)
Yes! I'm always delighted when a co-worker bends over backwards to help me with some internal tool they created. So I try to do the same with my tools.

comment Most difficult subject/theory in Computer Science?
I am just beginning to climb this particular mountain (pattern recognition). It's hard. LOTS of math. Great, huge, intimidating piles of math, staring back at me, daring me to enter.
