comment Should you keep a copy of all the code you write?
Wasn't this a major issue in the recent Oracle v Google case too?

comment Completion time on a company where the supervisors don't know programming
@Ramhound But this isn't about project based work, its about product based work. If a 50% discount on 15 hours of development will gain you a product sale to a value equivalent to 1500 hours of development then it's worth giving the discount and making the sale.

comment How important is it for a programmer to have an online presence?
@RobertHarvey Why do you assume 'online presence' means Twitter and not GitHub accounts, contributions to open source projects and mailing lists? And who said we were trying to measure people skills? I specifically said 'interact with a community of coders' rather than communicate with management.

Why would how someone performs at an interview necessarily be more important than how they interact with a community of coders over a period of time (as demonstrated by their online presence)?

comment Why was Tanenbaum wrong in the Tanenbaum-Torvalds debates?
I can't even use Windows 7 without a command line - by default I can't run an MSI 'as administrator', I have to start an admin command prompt and then run the MSI from there.

comment HTML5 hype as native app replacement - reliable analysis and sources
Are your target audience using anything other than IE? Why would cross-browser headaches be any less in MS-only Silverlight than in HTML5? Also, if styling UI elements in non-standard ways is one of your concerns why not also consider Flash/Flex?

comment Is there a way to combat Sales perpetually overcommitting?
The easier way to adjust the incentives is to subtract the cost of the overtime from the amount of the deal before paying the percentage commission.

comment Are 9 to 5 programmers looked down upon?
We do expect policemen to go hunting criminals on their own time. For the London Metropolitan Police you're expected to spend two years as a 'Special' - an unpaid volunteer - before you'll be considered for a full time position.

comment Why did Git get so much hype? …while others don't?
Not completely reliable as an indicator, but the first crawl of github.com in the archive.org database is May 2008, and the first crawl of bitbucket.org is June 2008 (ignoring the crawls which obviously weren't the current website).

@Metropolis I'm not suggesting you do, the question is about browsers for web development, not browsers for general use
