comment Where is the application of Calculus (of continuous quantities) in Computer Science or programming
@EmmadKareem This what i meant: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinitesimal_calculus. Correct me if i am wrong.

@Blrfl I would with SoboLAN as the area of Physics where this kind of Calculus is used, typically called Mechanics is very much involved in writing the functions or methods to work correctly. But again the answer is a scenario based application and does not address as to where we need Calculus(differentiation and integration of physical quantities) in Computer Science or programming in general.

i agree with you. But this also depends what branch of Calculus you are talking about. If you talk about Labda Calculus then it does have application in computation and recusrive functions. FYI:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambda_calculus

This is where analog devices comes into play. Continous physical quantities are measured using analog devices and digital devices like for example speedometer and odometer. So when a continous quanitity is translated into discrete then is that the occasion when we differentiate or integrate them?

@jk. What you mean by "physical things"? Do you mean something tangible? Then what about Time? Time is abstract. We can always differentiate and integrate it. And same goes for other physical quantitiies which are continous in nature. Please explain.

comment Can someone find a job as a programmer without an education?
I think we are talking about programmers here! The names of the people quoted are successful people in their own domains. They were not programmers for sure.

Do look out for all those Mathematical tools available to analyze algorithms for their perfromance and costs.

comment How important is maths depending on what your coding?
Programming is a Computer Science activiy and hence Mathematics plays a vital role there. But if you consider to be a mere IT professional and like to learn programming based on a certain technology then you can definitely learn it and become an expert in that area without much Mathematics. If you are a CS undergrad or Maths fanatic and like to learn programming in general from the very core foundation, wants to go in detail and arugments then do read the book "The Art of Computer Programming" authored by Donald Knuth.

It is quite true that Mathematics is invlovled in Game Development. Random numbers, 2D and 3D Graphics, and Mechanics (or Applied Maths/ Calculus) does constitute a major part in Game Development. It also depends on what level of Game Development you are doing. If you are developing games with the help of a Game framework, you wouldn't need much Maths. But if you are creating a framework for developing games yourself, then you have to know some Mathematics there!

comment Does the use of debuggers have an effect on the efficiency of programmers?
@ alain.janinm You need to understand what Blackbox Tesing is in the first place. FYI: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_box_testing

@Adam Crossland With a debugger you can do white box and black box testing conveniently. You can spot a memory leak, undesired ouputs and can also validate your methods correctly. This ultimately helps to avoid bugs at runtime. Can you justify your argument?

But for the sake of saving the tester's time and effort, it would be best to use the debugger as and when required. Essentially speaking Unit Testing is infact a developer's job! What do you say?

comment How can I explain the difference between NULL and zero?
So we can simply say that NULL is a placeholder in memory with an undefined data type.Right?
