Another PHP programmer responsible for things like the MicroMVC PHP framework.

You may notice that some of my questions run very deep into the heart of certain issues because I strive for the highest optimization that is possible in my apps.

I totally agree. It's these questions I'm looking for an answer for. You mention reading a lot - and that is what I'm trying to do - I need lots of resources to read about the languages I want to look into. While it's not possible to have an un-biased review, some are much more even balanced and that is all I wanted.

Not really, Frameworks can only use what the language already provides.

Ah, but what is it about Python that makes it better? Most languages all share the same toolkits - it's the language design that introduces things like threading, concurrency, VM requirements, compiling/interpreting, persistence, etc.

It's worth pointing out that things like non-blocking responses, memory usage, concurrency, and other factors are huge in the market for a new language that will power a web application.

It's worth pointing out that there is also more to a program than it's execution speed. Development speed and the way you have to build your application (due to the language) play an important role.

That is why I didn't define my needs - My personal needs are beside the point. I want to know where I can look to match my needs to a certain programming language. Because my needs may change and I'll need to go back again.

Well, since I'm so good in PHP - I will continue to work in it since I can still make a good living. I was mostly thinking about a new language for my own projects. Something to help add some flavor back into my life. I work in just about every are of web development you can think of, NLP, Text parsing, CMS, API's, storage, etc. Also, someone with experience in many languages has much less of a bias than people with only one design process.

Not a bad idea, however it wouldn't work in the real world. Without spending the time fully understanding each language - I could never foresee the full design pattern problem and benefits each system could provide. I'm sure it would take months of working in each language to achieve a high-level understanding of the language itself. I would rather hear from tire experts than spend months deengineering each wheel to figure out why they built it like that. Still, after I have some good candidates I will certainly do this.

comment How do you organize your MVC framework while supporting modules/plugins?
So the structure you recomend is just actually a dual module directory? Orchard seems to have a "Core" folder with system modules and a "Module" folder with user modules. Though, I don't program in .NET so I'm not sure.

comment What is the greatest design flaw you have faced in any programming language?
I actually like this about JavaScript. Language structure simplicity is nice and the purpose should be evident if the developer knows what they are doing.

comment A new CAPTCHA using sentences?
Assuming the high rate of correct usage by many spell-checkers, and the probability of guessing the remaining words as Jeff mentioned, I believe this would greatly reduce the effectiveness of the CAPTCHA. I think it would work fine for many smaller sites - but not one that spammers would mind spending a little time trying to break. Computers already speak better language than humans - spell-checkers prove that.
