comment Should I validate API output?
Having a DataMember attribute won't make it clear that any renaming will break the contract.. someone will not realise that. Even having a datamember name property won't help (someone will just rename that too). I considered the same thing but realised I was just duplicating stuff for the sake of reminding any possible future dev to not break it - which won't work. If you have a test, that'll help. The contents don't matter all that much, it's the structure that you need to worry about. If you need to test the contents, then unit test the function that generates the content not the final XML.

comment How to deal with clients that only gives you huge flow of “how to do this”, but can't say “what and why” they need?
I understand the concept, but it's not answering the question. Sometimes cancelling the business relationship isn't a viable option. Not all of us have that privilege.

Voted down because "fire them" isn't exactly a helpful answer.

comment When to use a message queue as a web service database?
Yep. Your question is essentially "Is it worth using a message queue system to store messages in a queue?"

comment taking notes while reading source code of large projects
The studies showing that writing things down improves learning applied to people studying and listening to lectures. We guess the reason why it's better than typing is because when writing you are forced to listen, digest and summarize what they are saying. It's not as simple as saying "writing is better than typing", and possibly won't make much of a difference in this case. Having that I agree that drawing diagrams will help, because hand drawing means you can concentrate on the diagram, not on the software.

comment Best Development Methodology for One Person?
One possible option is to try to find another person :) I know it's not answering the question, but for my last app I did the entire thing on my own, and it was quite difficult. Having a second person just to bounce ideas off and keep you focused will make a huge difference. They don't need to code, but just be a sounding board and keep you honest.

comment Should an ASP.NET MVC application directly use Entity Framework as the model?
Good answer, would recommend using ValueInjector or something similar (personally I hated automapper) instead of manually mapping properties from one class to the other.
