I don't agree you need to learn C++ to learn Objective-C.

comment Am I deluding myself? Business analyst transition to programmer
The 5% is referring to the amount of hours... that's about how much time you have to spend on "hobbies". Isn't it better to spend 70% or so of your time on what you like to do than 5% of your time?

comment Am I deluding myself? Business analyst transition to programmer
@EmmadKareem, I think there are plenty of programmers that have been working 10, 20 or more years and are happy with their careers

comment Am I deluding myself? Business analyst transition to programmer
@EmmadKareem, "don't mix hobby with career"... you mean: make sure that almost all of your waking life is spent doing something you don't like and about 5% doing what you like... sounds like a great plan for happiness (but admittedly a common one)

comment Pointers in C vs No pointers in PHP
What's not "real" about a C array? True, when passed into a function (or assigned) they turn into pointers, but when declared, I think they qualify as a "real" array... just allocated on the stack.

"(i.e., they didn't do a Get Latest after the original fix was checked in), made changes, and then checked in without doing a diff"... if that happens your source control system is broken

@John Bode, talk to your own lawyer about that (not your company's)... it's very possible that such clauses are not enforcable

comment How to make Classic ASP interesting if you are stuck with it?
I question the premise... very few people who think they are "stuck for the foreseeable future" really are. Unless this is a prison job, there is a way out if you put the effort into finding it. If you still think you're "stuck", picture this... the company goes out of business tomorrow. Would you still be "stuck"? If not, then why are you "stuck" now?
