Why do you have to manually type variable names while debugging? I think you're close to solving my dilemma, but I don't quite understand it. Are you saying that you can (usually) watch something other than variables, execution flow and thread(s) information ? Maybe it's those complex expressions that you mentioned, but I don't understand exactly what those are. Can you give me some example or elaborate your answer a little more ? Thank you. |

Why is CS never a topic of conversation of the layman? Shooting down such questions is actually good most of the time. If a friend of mine asks me what dual-core means for example, I usually don't tell him. When I talk about these things and explain them (even in just a few very high level sentences) I can see their faces getting more and more bored. I hate that feeling so I avoid it. |

Why would a programmer want to separate implementation from interface? This is one of the strongest features of OOP. I just love it... |

Too much to learn, dealing with overwhelming varieties of technologies Let's say that you're right: HR is making up a list of anything they can think of. You'll probably say: "Hey, I meet 70 % of the requirements, let me give it a shot". Who do you end up sending your CV to ? Exactly: to the HR department. |

Teacher demands excessive/unjustified use of Design Patterns @Izkata I accepted this because I realised he was right. I was assuming my teacher(s) was/were exagerating. It was a wrong assumption... |

Teacher demands excessive/unjustified use of Design Patterns I like your continuation with the car mechanic analogy. Nice answer, thank you. |

Teacher demands excessive/unjustified use of Design Patterns I thought it was the case of "some people who go pattern-crazy". It turns out I only miscalculated where that line is. PS: I did get maximum grades so far, hopefully it'll continue to work :) . |

Teacher demands excessive/unjustified use of Design Patterns @ChrisF true, but... Teaching students to crumble as many design patterns in an application as possible... isn't that a bad practice that we SHOULDN'T learn ? |
