@S.Lott : Well, I do provide an example in my question. And actually, I don't hate frameworks. I just want to know people thoughts on not using a PHP framework in modern days.

Of course I don't just throw a random mysql_query() here and there. I mean, in classic PHP I can just simply add a call to something like Categories::read_all() and loop through the result in some header.php file, while in Twig I have to create a custom Twig function for that. And for prototyping, I love the scaffolding features :)
