comment Why do many languages not support named parameters?
FWIW, in C++ you can use the Named Parameter Idiom: parashift.com/c++-faq/named-parameter-idiom.html I've never seen it used in practice, which may hint that the answer to your question is that not a lot of people see a need for named parameters.

comment Git submodule vs Git clone
Submodules do not prevent you from making local changes. On the contrary, they allow you to track those changes and use different versions (your tweaks or library releases) of the library in different projects.

comment Why aren't more desktop apps written with Qt?
@BillyONeal - unfortunately that edit makes reading some of the comments confusing as they refer to the old numbers. Maybe you should start with #0? As any good programmer would :).

comment Do you write titles in code comments?
Another benefit of this is that functions such as InitializeBoard or InitializePlayer will appear in function/module/class browser lists of most IDEs whereas comments will not. Easier navigation.

comment Is SourceSafe really safe?
FWIW my experience is similar to Jon's. 7 years, 8 person team, no problems using VSS. Apparently we're in the (lucky) minority. I would never use it again based on all the stories (using SVN now).

comment You are or will be a laid off programmer - what do you do a year ago, right now, tomorrow, and next week?
"imporving your skills." Including typing. :)
