comment Why aren't more desktop apps written with Qt?
I'm really curious what you think Qt Designer lacks. I haven't used recent versions of the other tools you mentioned, so I don't know what I'm missing.

comment How to convince my boss that quality is a good thing to have in code?
I would downvote this if I could. Moral convictions aside, misleading and undermining your boss probably puts your long term career at greater risk than following through on his bone-headed plan.

"They never see the code." Yeah, and most people never see the inside of their air conditioner. Fixing a refrigerant leak with duct tape is still unethical.

comment Why is Mercurial considered to be easier than Git?
This perception may be based on history -- my understanding is that git has changed a lot (for the better) from when it first appeared. I don't know enough details to provide a good answer, so I'd love it if someone more knowledgeable would follow up on this.

@n42: Yeah, I'm with you.

comment Why learn hexadecimal?
@Davor: It's because hex is easier to read. I can make sense of an 8 digit hex value a lot faster than a 32 digit binary value.

comment Why do some programmers hate the UI part of the development?
@JoshK - I wasn't personally offended, sorry to give that impression. I've just seen enough of what goes into graphic design, and even good UI design, to know that it's not as simple as it might look. BTW, in your last comment, which kind of design do you mean -- software design, or graphic design? Dang overloaded terminology. Assuming that you're still talking about the back-end and/or architecture, I think you hit the nail on the head there -- Lots of people seem think that the UI is all there is.

comment Why do some programmers hate the UI part of the development?
@JoshK - Your main point is spot-on, but I disagree that "Anyone can make something look good". We developers get irritated at folks who undervalue our profession ("it's just typing, how hard can it be?"), so let's not do the same to other disciplines.

comment Would you use C, today, for a software project?
@Mason Wheeler: Hmm... I've dismissed Pascal in the past, but maybe it's time to take another (closer) look. Do you have other suggestions?

comment How do you prevent the piracy of your software?
+1 The point is to stop casual pirates ("Hey, can you burn me a copy of that?"), not the dedicated serial pirates. Casual piracy is a crime of opportunity, and simple copy protection can remove the opportunity.

comment What do you consider the 1st principle(s) of programming?
I agree that this isn't a great answer, but -5!? I find that an understanding the underlying machine does tend to make one a better programmer. Of course, that doesn't mean that we should program in raw 1's and 0's.
