If you have any questions about the moderation on Programmers, please post a question on meta or chat. Any other attempts at communication will be ignored.

I've been a developer for over 30 years in one form or another. I learnt Pascal at University and my first job was programming in Fortran 66. I've since moved to C# & .NET via Ada, C and C++.

Over the years I've worked for companies of all sizes from 3 person startups to multi-national organisations with 1000's of employees. I've also worked at all levels from junior programmer to team lead/technical architect and one stint as a manager. I've seen various development methodologies from classic waterfall to Scrum implemented and used with varying degrees of success.

comment How should older programmers respond when interviewed
Age doesn't matter - attitude/personality does. I've worked with people of all ages in relation to me over the years and it always those with a chip on their shoulder that I couldn't get on with.

This is borderline age discrimination which is outlawed in the UK (and EU), but would be very hard to prove at a tribunal.

comment Is it reasonable to assume/require the .NET framework these days?
I should know having rebuilt 2 XP machines (one twice) recently, but as I also install Visual Studio & stuff it tends to arrive without me noticing

Have you got a link for XP SP2 including .NET 3.0. I couldn't find one.

comment How long do programmers generally stay in industry?
@John - Probably. Whether I'll be doing it as my profession is another question though.
