I would agree, you should tailor your CV to the job you are applying for. My simple rule would be if it adds value and improves your chances of getting an interview add it, otherwise highlight some other skill or ability that shows your value to a prospective employer.

@xepoch, it was visually at that point. The reason for it being in the standard of that time was twofold, It was easier for the manager at the time to read when it was printed out and the typeface was specifed to fix the spacing issues (monospace was demanded) so each column of characters lined up.
