@Telastyn, that's true, but sometime you have to consider order (just like when you are using filters on a servlet). If you are using events to decouple components (versus notification only), you will also have to do actual logic (even if indirectly)

@Telastyn, I'm not sure to fully understand what do you mean by 'besides refactoring out logic from event handlers'.

I'm just curious about the 'never update, always insert' rule. Why ?

comment What is the difference between being an IT in investment bank and a professional IT company?
@deepsky, for one trading software, how many crappy inhouse secondary softwares ? Additional flaws in banking IT is third party solution choices: you don't have a word to say about technology X or bloatware Y that your manager want to put in the project because the organization just bought it for millions of $. That said there are very good teams working on very great projects in banks. You just have to be lucky :)

hehe, I like'the fact that non-programmers need to see something visually impressive before being impressed'. Writing a fractal generator was one of my first project in computer science school. And I was impressed myself :)

comment How are multiple values returned in Java?
I'm sure some 'ancient' language are able to do it too :) IMHO I found multiple return values can lead to total mess, and if you need to add another return fields, you just have to update your struct like class without to change your method signature.

Using a compact immutable struct-like class is not so painful... It is really like writing a C struct...

comment How do you manage passwords in your team for db with multiple env and security constraints?
Yes, that's a good suggestion..; I'm just trying to install it without admin right and it is not so easy... Damn group policies!
