comment What are the advantages of myBatis over Hibernate?
@Marcin great point. I've seen too many problems with collections emulation in Hibernate. For example some code calls myBag.size() and Hibernate tries to load 750K objects into memory before counting them. If you only need SQL, use SQL.

@GlenPeterson I'm not saying Hibernate cannot be tamed, but for most people, out of the box, complex domain entities will be loaded slowly unless optimizations are made, as you quoted. Complex analytic queries are more straightforward with myBatis for most users, though the same can indeed be achieved with an ORM. The question for many is whether they need that ORM's vendor independence for their product.

@MikePartridge I meant non-entity analytic queries. In this case you must use the Tranformers to map to beans, but these assume the worst case types like BigDecimal and BigInteger which are far from optimal. myBatis is far easier to map in that case to the target types.

comment Why do we need method level security?
Because it is the lowest available level and readily applied seemlessly using AOP or AspectJ. I don't believe this applies to all other security implementations.

@Codism - He did answer it. B/c you cannot assume anything. You do the authorization check at the method level b/c regardless of how someone got there, you need to ensure they have the proper rights.
