comment Performing a username lookup before registering a User while conforming to REST philosophy
@user1324816: 409 expects you to add to the response body "enough information for the user to recognize the source of the conflict".

comment Performing a username lookup before registering a User while conforming to REST philosophy
Renaming the endpoint from "register" to "users" should be enough, right?

comment Name of this pattern to wrap functionality
@EdCottrell That's what I had in mind, or you could pass to the wrapper the whole factory already setup (i.e. built with the correct impl. name) and call create() only in doFoo/Bar(). That could depend on if you want to defer instantiating the implementor for resources concerns.

comment Developing an Android application while dogfooding it
If the problem is just the DB, Android provides an easy way to version them, so that when upgrading the app, the old records can be converted to the new format (see SQLiteOpenHelper).

comment Short circuit evaluation, is it bad practice?
@JackAidley could you provide a pointer to why 'or die' is bad? Is it just a naive way of handling exceptions?

comment How to decide what library to use?
ProGuard's shrink feature can remove from the libraries all the unused code, so size should still not matter.

comment Algorithm that generates a group of men and women who are each interested in everyone from the other gender
How do you create the list? How does it begin? By specifying a single person, or a set, or by declaring some starting criteria? Every time you add someone you'll need to update (necessarily restrict) the constraints to be in the list, so the order in which you add people is going to matter.
