comment In centralized version control, is it always good to update often?
If you are not branching, then you are not taking advantage of one of the biggest benefits of a version control system.

comment Cataloging events, projects and tasks: Is SQL appropriate?
@Rig - Your comment is chilly. Maybe Noah will learn exactly what he needs to know about programming in this process which could be invaluable for his career -- maybe even develop a better product than what exists now for a niche.

comment Best Architecture for ASP.NET WebForms Application
Release early, release often. I suggest that your client might not care so much if you don't have tangible business issues to present (eg, it's insecure). Perhaps you should clean up a little (make sure it's portable), and release, then take this on as a long term initiative - to morph into MVC or similar.

comment Why don't people use white space inside parentheses?
Clearly, you cannot see clearly. I think this kind of bias breeds contempt amongst programmers. Even if "This is very clear" is clear to you, it is far more clear to someone else when written as "これは非常に明確である".

+1 on the "this is something newbies really need to understand" -- if you don't have boolean logic down, then how can you understand more complicated concepts?

comment Is there a faster way to work out this logic?
Back in the '80s when I was < 10 years old, trying my bestest to program in gwbasic, I couldn't figure out arrays... what a shame. x23 = x24; x24 = x25 gaa;

I cannot speak for hg subrepositories, so I think this could be a useful "half" of an answer :)

comment I target short projects, but fail miserably on projects that requires persistence
Sounds like you might be burnt out. Have you been working too hard for too long? Sometimes it is simply discipline.
