Development Manager and ex-MS Developer based on Scotland. Still passably competent with SQL and VBA and dream of one day doing more programming but for now mainly interested in best practice, management and methodology type things.

When I'm not working I spend my time doting on my daughters and/or trying to catch up on the sleep they've deprived me of.

comment What is the right level of site blocking for you as a developer?
@Pierre303 - I was trying to make a joke about how today no Flash and no ActiveX is considered pretty much normal and even desirable. Obviously 10 years ago it wasn't the case.

@Pierre303 - You say no Flash and ActiveX like that's a bad thing... ;-)

comment At what point during a project is it unreasonable to leave?
@MarkJ - I understand that but my point is that when push comes to shove the company will do what is right for it and the individual should do the same. That's not to say that people should be spiteful or completely selfish, just that they should understand that the company is more than capable of looking after it's own interests and the employees should focus on what is best for us.

comment What's a schrödinbug?
@Jan - The additional cases you give are just variants of case 2 - that it never worked. Ultimately the key thing here is not the detail of why it did or didn't work, it's really just dispelling the myth of something which worked perfectly stopping working for no reason. There is always a reason.
