comment Is it possible to call a function or a script with a REST API?
Do you want to ask the server "give me the average workout time", or do you want to ask "calculate the average workout time"? The first would be a request that fits the REST ideas very well: You ask for some information and you don't care how or when it gets calculated, as long as the information is accurate.

comment Does a `long` ban make sense?
@TommyA: The C and C++ standards both require long to be able to store any value in the range [-2147483647 .. +2147483647]. That range requires 32 bits of storage.

comment What are the problems with boolean variables?
Can you be a bit more specific which languages you are referring to? Often there are historical reasons, but that depends on the specific languages.

comment Should every class I write adhere to an interface?
@Darien: The reason that a testing system may require interfaces is because the test are actually using a different (mocked) implementation, bringing you back to the first bullet of when an interface is appropriate.

It is impossible for us to tell who is being unreasonable here. It is equally possible that both or neither of you are being unreasonable and it all depends on the details of what you have done and what you were asked to do. In any case, we are not going to play arbiter here.

comment Open source: what is the definition of “derivative work” and how does it impact copy-left
@Adama: How a work gets distributed has no influence on the determination if it is a derived work or not.

comment How to make Scrum work for a team with defined roles?
Are the "implementation staff" needed to be able to present the initial system to the client, or are they mostly working on the deployment (and training) that happens after the client has given their final approval (step 6 in your current way of working)?

@JCOidl: Yes, you are only conveying the code if it is part of the package that people can download.

comment Licensing a portion of a project under the MIT and the rest under the MPL
Is there a specific reason that your standard library lives in a sub-directory under the compiler? Would the licensing situation be clearer if you had them in parallel folder structures under a common root (making the library and compiler siblings of each other in the directory structure)?

comment Why don't languages that have big integer support have unsigned versions?
What behavior would you expect from an unsigned big-int if you calculate 0 - 1? What advantages would unsigned big integers have over signed big integers?
