comment How to convey that a project is too ambitious?
The only way to develop that skill is with experience and it sounds like you've started down that path.

comment Should the commit history be used to convey critical information to developers?
It sounds like your project has pretty serious communication problems.

comment How should I remember what I was doing and why on a project three months back?
If you want to take it a bit further, you might want to look at a system like David Allen's GTD.

comment Giving team members more decision-making power led to very long arguments, blocking progress since there is no one with the final say

comment Effective way of keeping past projects with their working development environment?
I think you also need to retain copies of all software/version and install your project from a script. It's a big step forward to be able to quickly reproduce the install every time.

comment How should I structure a solution for a long term project?
I totaly agree with this. After doing this stuff for 20 years, I almost always have to refactor decent sized solutions when I know more about the project.

comment Develop for Desktop and mobile use?
I'm not sure that phonegap is the final answer but writing apps in HTML5/JS with a native device interface layer is going to be the future of cross platform development.
