I'm a programmer, currently working on my startup, econemon.com [sorry, German only, yet], which builds specialized middleware to use in the growing number of energy monitoring and smart metering applications.

Yes, +1. If you feel bad about an empty commit, start with the .gitignore (or equivalent) as Xion wrote in another answer [programmers.stackexchange.com/a/176845/5405]. That's a very natural first commit.

@back2dos - Also, I wouldn't generally favor either approach. Both have their merits, and the more time you spend with a technology, the less difference there is between the two.

comment Learn a language bottom-up or top-down?
@back2dos - I don't think so. It seems to me that it's implicit in the fact that you start out with a huge amount of code already written, as opposed to slowly growing your own code. I definitely think it applies to the jQuery / JS universe as well.

comment Why are part-time jobs in programming an anomaly?
Read this with interest, a) because I had the same experience and b) because I'm hoping to hire people in my own company some time next year and I would like to make 3-day weeks possible without being an economic jerk.
