I think it's just easier to critisize than praise.

comment How to do pragmatic high-level/meta-programming?
@Péter Török: Maybe, the problem has many facets to me. Since code is an investment, it would be a pitty to throw both a pile of source code and the contained logic away, if you 're moving to another language/platform.

@Péter Török: Think more of another example: you've written your core library in Java and now need to write an iOS app. Now what? This has been a real business problem for some people, if you look at people.csail.mit.edu/jaffer/Schlep or isi.edu/isd/LOOM/Stella. On what language do you bet you future?

comment Stuff you should have learned in school but didn't pay attention to at the time
I regret not having spend more time learning spoken languages (it just clicked for me 10-20 years later), but this is not programming related.

comment Is there a measure of code rot?
What would you use this measure for? To get more resources from management because your code is more rotten than others?

comment When required to convert code from a language you don't know, how do you go about it?
"syntax is easily translated if you are a competent programmer" So learning Haskell must have been a non-brainer for you?

comment “My stuff” vs. “Your stuff” in UI texts
Such prefixes rarely bear any useful information. They only make sense, when you want to distinguish between "your / our" ... for example "offer".

comment Writing/discussions about the aesthetics of code?
I agree. The chapter "Beautiful concurrency" in Haskell is freely available: research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/people/simonpj/papers/stm/… (the site is down as we speak)
