comment Testing - Test for Specific Paths?
@Ixrec the way I understand white-box testing, it is more useful for unit testing because the structure of the component under test has to be known. Black-box testing are usually generated based on the specifications and could be more relevant for acceptance testing since the structure of the system under test must not be known.

comment Testing - How to test if you are actually testing the code?
Another thing to consider are the different types of coverage. Line coverage can be deceptive if not used together with the other types of code coverage like parameter value coverage which ensures that all common values have been considered. Doing so will definitely improve test quality.

I was coincidentally just reading up on mutation testing the other day. Dave Marshall gives a very good introduction to mutation testing.

comment Pattern for multiple datasources
I think the Strategy pattern would work for you as suggested by one of the answers on the aforementioned question. You are probably already doing it with the "base" class, maybe not as complete with respect to the definition.

comment What Design Pattern is separating transform converters
When you say you only call some methods in each converter, I have the feeling that these methods are superfluous. From the little I could pick up on the builder patterns, it is solely for creating objects but the strategy pattern implements algorithms depending on the context. In your case, the context would be the object type to be converted.

comment What to do when you inherit an unmaintainable codebase?
I am in a similar predicament, and I have been doing what you did, only in situations whereI had to change or improve functionality. I think I will start doing the 1-2 hours per day to restructure the code. I am lucky that there is not much, so I could possibly finish it all in 2 months.

comment Why do we have to use break in switch?
That is true. I was however just attempting to show cases where fall through could be used. It would obviously be much better if each of the months needed something done individually.
