comment Should I return from a function early or use an if statement?
Plus you don't keep adding indents if you get rid of the border cases at the beginning.

comment Why do programmers write closed source applications and then make them free?
@Mystere Man: Maybe it isn't actually about the money. Maybe they're not thinking "what's in it for me?" Maybe people are actually just doing it because they want to, and maybe to help other people, and the money really doesn't matter.

comment When is a feature considered a “First class citizen” in a programming language/platform?
@bjarkef: Sounds like that was already answered by its matching the description offered in the preceding sentences.

comment Is practicing meditation a good or bad thing for programmers?
@ChrisF: Meditation is not unique, but when combined with a unique phenomenon - the mental state and processes of a programmer - you produce a unique result exclusively relevant to what a programmer does. Any general-case answer would be useless to programmers because we won't find out what programmer-specific tasks would be affected or how. Likewise this question posed to programmers will produce results unique to programmers.

"Out of date and now just misleading" falls under "bad" and that's even worse than nothing.

comment Do I need to go to a big-name university?
@Underflow: I'd be cautious approaching either side of that argument. How many of us actually have the experience to make an judgement that isn't based on a catastrophic lack of reliable data?

comment How is “SELECT *” read in English?
One of the two co-creators of SEQUEL died. The other co-creator's still alive and kicking. He probably even had a hand in deciding the new name and pronunciation. Consider that SEQUEL was already trademarked and that was serious enough they needed to rename it - I don't think keeping an identical pronunciation would have snuck under a lawyer's radar.
