comment Generating CMakeLists.txt
@SixSlayer : thanks. I guess my question was a bit vague. However finding the right formulation is equivalent to answering my question myself. The world of advanced cross-platform deployment process is extremely opaque for beginners like me and this can get very frustrating. It is encouraging to see I am not the only one !

I needed to be sure that digging into was worth it - along with some motivation - and it seems to be the case. Thanks a lot !

CMake is just much more powerful than what I expected I guess !

I am actually asking because I don't have a clue how open-source cross-platform programmers build their files. I would be comfortable with an answer like "Make systems like CMake are the most user-friendly tools to deploy your applications. Just deal with it".

+1 for copying existing patterns. But as patterns clearly exist I suspect the existence of guidelines ;)

Thanks for the answer. My question is certainly too broad. I just want to improve myself and it is really hard to find any accurate information about simple C++ program cross-platform deployment. It is just like everything is tacit for the developer community. I can find tons of tutorials for the coding part but nothing about how to deploy a set of source files.

Writing tests afterwards is also a good way to spot huge mistakes in your code. It is somehow self-reviewing. But TDD is clearly the best approach if you are starting fresh.
