comment What are the best ways to find fellow coders to work on hobby open-source projects?
@MichaelT : I've tried that enough times to know that nobody listens on meta. Downvoting is so much more convenient.

@MichaelT : it would work great if the SE cult didn't insist on closing such questions. They perfectly fit the Q&A model, what they don't fit is this community's tiny world view.

@jk : in my case I need help for a part of my project (the web interface) before it can be useful...

Regarding your first example: couldn't you compose objects instead of duplicating them? In that case your UI objects would have a reference to your original data objects, and would expose only the necessary elements. Wouldn't that make sense?

comment How do you find partners for open source projects?
As I said, I do have programmer friends, but we only very rarely have the same needs and interests at the same time. The same could probably be said of the local programmer community. It seems to me that I'd have a better chance to find matches in the global internet community.

Github and the like suck unless you already have a working project. I want to find collaborators to discuss the design and goals of the project before I start writing any code.

@ElYusubov: github is a great platform for hosting, but it sucks if you want to find contributors, except if your project already works.
