I'd say that any claim starting with "According to open-source literature" could be wrong - the space program was classified and so deliberate disinformation could be put in open-source literature.

@Anisha Kaul: No, "all possibilities" is a huge list. I'd name some widely used - Java RMI and .NET Remoting are good examples.

@Anisha Kaul: Okay, RPC programming is network programming (a subset thereof) and one important RPC concept is a so-called string binding - see msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa378691(v=VS.85).aspx You don't need that thing when programming BSD sockets.
