@Anna Lear, if this is supposed to be an essential part of "programming culture", I want nothing to do with such "culture". The deepest bonding I've ever experienced with other developers was based on ability and merit.

@Jon Hopkins, I couldn't agree more. I find these to be silly, patronizing terms that communicate nothing. For one thing, programming aptitude is more complex to measure than "ninja vs non-ninja".

Amen and Amen! This has been my exact philosophy with regard to my career for the past 6 years, and thus, I've managed to get the kind of work & money I wanted, with the freedom to move on if things don't work out.
