David they don't use CI, I suppose they don't do unit testing instead use code&fix. Maybe it is a dead-march-project... management need some way to control the "progress" (lines of code in this case) to be able to say "We go forward". @Michael how does it look in real?

comment Best Practices when extending a project
Try to cover the code base especially the most important parts and of cource the parts you want to modify with tests. Writing tests is a good mathod to learn(learning tests) how something works. Then when you have good coverage you can start to modify the code without "edit&pray" approach. Do not expect you wont break anything - the risk should be clearly communicated to customers.
