comment Why job postings always looking for “rockstars?”
I'd like to be a ninja programmer. I'd never show up for work, and when people asked questions about why they never saw me I'd just say it was because of my awesome ninja skills.

comment What am I missing about PHP?
Yeah, based on the line "That's practically no different from JavaScript" in the question, I figured the author might be failing to understand the critical distinction that PHP is server-side and JavaScript is (mostly) client-side.

I really, truly, hate "PHP: A Fractal of Bad Design". When it was posted on Hacker News a few months ago, I wrote that I lost all my respect for the author after he snobbishly belittled me and called me an amateur just because I used a certain language: "So I have to fit this in here, because it bears repeating: PHP is a community of amateurs. Very few people designing it, working on it, or writing code in it seem to know what they’re doing. (Oh, dear reader, you are of course a rare exception!)"

comment Java exam: prebuilt methods?
If you are asking this to find out whether or not to study things like that, you'd be surprised how much you can remember on a test when your grade depends on it. Just glance at bubble sort a few times (it's the easiest one to remember IMO) and you'll probably be able to either recall it or re-invent it on the test.

comment Best approach for writing a chess engine?
I agree. I wanted to have a really diverse resume of projects, but honestly I just enjoy developing chess things more.
