One way would be to write a stored procedure that basically creates the exact table you need, and pull that from the database as a C# object. Do all of the calculation and transformation on the database...

comment Hiring developers - listing IDE as a requirement?
Training is not an option here. This is pretty fast paced... I was brought on to fix a certain application; I was given a laptop and a phone number and the rest was up to me. Literally.

Their effectiveness isn't in question (at least not by me), the question is AT WHAT are they effective? In my experience, as I have stated, the advantage is primarily as a means of enforcement, replacement for the coding standards we used to pass around, making it easier to communicate changes and upgrades. Again, this is simply my own experience. I am not master developer... Senior AT BEST.

That is what the books say. But I have never actually solved a problem through a design pattern that I couldn't solve without it. The only advantage I have noticed in my own experience is an ability to speak to each other about the code! ;)

+1 - my point was that design patterns are simply a means of communication!

Chicken and egg I guess. But the question was about code review... which I just don't think is the time to stroke ego...

comment Black Hat Hackers vs Programmers?
I think Daniel B has a great point. Anyone pirating your software is not likely part of your projected demographic... People who need the software will also likely need the support that comes with buying it. I think Microsoft is a perfect example. I don't know one person that paid for their copy of Windows, but I also don't know of one company that hasn't paid out the nose for unlimited copies.
