comment When is it acceptable to NOT fix broken windows?
Some developers say they are "Fixing broken windows" when really they are "rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic" - indeed, it often seems to be difficult for developers to tell the difference between "technical debt" and "not the way I would have done it"

comment Should I return from a function early or use an if statement?
I've previously heard this referred to as "the Bouncer Pattern" - get rid of bad cases before they get in the door.

comment What is the best way to bring a new programmer up to speed on a project?
I should also say that, as with everything XP, the key thing is to do what works for you. If physical switching of roles is not workable (VNC is not always the smoothest of connections), there's more than enough value in at least spending an hour or two just letting your cohort watch whilst you code and commentate, let them make suggestions etc.

We've done it before just using Skype and screen sharing e.g vnc. There are things like saros-project.org for Eclipse, although I've never used it so I can't vouch for it's effectiveness.
